In Their Steps

One of the most famous passages in the Bible is the beginning of certain Scriptures as thus” “And it came to pass…” So the question: what came to pass? And there it is, the story of God’s plan and timing and order of His holy salvation for the souls of men. God stated it earlier in the Bible of what parts of His plan would be; and just as it was written, so “it came to pass” at the exact time in a century, in that year and day, in proper sequential and chronological order, event by event, with all characters playing their role. For, as “it came to pass,” it was already done in God’s heart before the beginning of time. That’s why it is so important, so beautiful, so holy, so silently and prayerfully engaging to remember and meditate upon the eve and the very day of the story of the birth of God the Son, as a baby into the world, as recounted in the Gospels.

It came to pass “in the fullness of time” as God the Father so appointed it to be and made it happen according to His holy Plan. Understand the story; embrace the story of salvation only in the Lord Jesus…it is not enough to say, “I believe in God.” Do you? Which one? There are many so-called gods in the world today, as in the past whom have a great allegiance of worshippers. They think that that is the end of the matter. But there is only one Living GOD, the Creator and sustainer and planner of all things, O mortals, wake up!

From Genesis 3:15, “the Seed of the Woman,” has now wound its way through the Jewish linage of the “Seed Sons,” through the centuries spanning almost 4,000 years to the most blessed and favored of God, the blessed Mary of the house of David, who had the seed whereby by the power of God, the Second Person of the Godhead emptied Himself into the Seed and began the nine month journey of being born…God Himself would be born a little, tiny, helpless baby of the Virgin Mary as it was so prophesized in the Old Testament. That is what we come to celebrate on Christ-Mas day; and that is our joy, our happiness as we exchange our love and gifts in this state of holy remembrance.

Led by the hand of God, Joseph, Mary’s husband had to go to the city of David, Bethlehem of Judea to register for the tax as decreed by the Roman Emperor, Augustus. And so they set out to walk the 80 plus miles from Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem in Judea. Most likely, because Mary was near the time of delivery, Joseph would have had her ride in a donkey drawn cart to make the trip more bearable. Nevertheless, after several days they arrived in Bethlehem, in the evening and looked for a room for the night. But there was nothing available at the only inn in town, except a stable adjacent to the inn, and here they took their lodging among the animals.

And that very night Mary brought forth her first born Son, and He was named JESUS. And Mary wrapped the baby Jesus in swaddling cloths and placed our Lord in a manger, the only suitable thing available…all this that the Scriptures might be fulfilled. And an angel appeared to shepherds in the fields nearby announcing the birth of the Messiah…and the sky was filled by an uncountable multitude of the heavenly host praising God for this most wonderful, unprecedented mighty act of God, when God became Man.

You know the rest of the story. Let this resound in your hearts throughout the rest of the year. Think of it often of how incredible this was; think of the manner in which Jesus God, the Messiah, Christ, came to us the first time. Then think also of the future and your life…think of Christ will come the Second time in glory, power and might as the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS to rule the earth in His Kingdom, the Kingdom of God on earth. Where are you in this picture?

We, and human history shall have an ending and a new beginning; a resurrection and eternal life either with GOD, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, or, as unbelievers away from God in a place called by God, “The Lake of Fire,” where death and Hell, and Satan, and his son, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet and the fallen angels reside for all eternity. Is this where you want to be? Turn to GOD; invite Jesus into your life as Lord and Savior, and repent of your sins. Follow Him.

If you have a choice, come to the Father, through Christ, by the Holy Spirit. Pray the Father calls you according to His holy will. Pray.

This glorious, special day of the year we call Christmas, although tampered down somewhat in this world, yet resounds its glorious words in our hearts and souls and minds…and that is where Jesus is. He is our Lord and Savior. Let us give our eternal thanks to the Lord God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth and all things…creator of us, Author of our destiny.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit…

Amen.
