What a most glorious thing the Almighty GOD did when He created the very first man, Adam, on the sixth day of creation. Not only did GOD create the first man out of the ground and he became a living soul, but the Almighty GOD created the first man in His own image! Can you grasp that? In the very first book of the Holy Bible, the “book of beginnings,” Genesis, in chapter one, verse 26, it tells the account:
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…”
We are like God and we are in His own image…He said so and did so…but do we really reflect that image today? Do we imitate that image and likeness today? I see it in many, many, many Christians and Jews today…but that image became marred and distant the moment the first man and the first woman in history, Adam and Eve, sinned against GOD by following the lie of Satan. And from that moment forward, through some 6,000 or more years of human history, man has become more and more distant from that image of GOD, even to the point where now our children are born in our own image! This distancing from GOD was see in Adam and Eve, when, 130 years later,…
“And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth.” -Genesis 5:3.
But GOD in his great love and mercy and grace has put in motion His plan for restoring that image and likeness, His very own, for one day soon, after we die the sleep in Christ Jesus, there will be a glorious, eternal reappearing of that image of God and in God. For at the first resurrection we shall rise from the dead with new, immortal bodies just like Christ’s; and so that glorious image, lost somewhat and faded when man sinned against GOD so long ago, will once more be restored in the very image and likeness of Jesus Christ….”for we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him face to face.” And from that point on, we shall ever be with the Lord.
What a most blessed future He has in store for us! O blessed art thou, O Father, and Son, and Holy Spirit…forever and ever and ever…
And so think on these things of heaven; ponder them in your heart. Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and all your mind. Pray and give thanks and praise for this most wonderful, awe inspiring thing He has yet in store for those who truly love Him and follow Him, our Great Shepherd.
For all these things and more shall yet come to pass.
Even so, come Lord Jesus. Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest, O Holy One of Israel.
Amen.
